Duane E. Allison, 79, Junction City, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas. A private graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Highland Cemetery in Junction City. Reverend Kenton Van and Pastor Lorenzo Jackson both of Junction City will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church or to the Lighthouse Church of God both of Junction City.
Duane was born August 12, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas, the second of two children born to the late Cecil E. and Faith E. Allison. He grew up around the Wichita area and lived in Kechi and El Dorado, Kansas until his family moved to Junction City in 1947. He graduated from Junction City High School in the class of 1948.
He served in the United States Air Force from October 1950 to October 1954. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he worked for the Air National Guard in Salina, KS, Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS and subsequently Federal Civil Service until 1989 which with combined military service he retired with 33 years of service. Duane married Marcene Roles on July 6, 1956 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City. After moving back from Wichita he and his wife made Junction City their permanent home.
Duane was a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City. After retirement, Duane enjoyed Kansas State Basketball, Nascar racing, metal detecting and being a grandpa.
He is survived by his wife, Marcene of the home, a daughter Sandra Patton of Junction City, a son David Allison of Junction City, a daughter Angela Allison Owens and her husband Jody of Salina, a granddaughter Renee Patton Brown and her husband Dwight of Lost Springs, Kansas, a grandson Wesley Owens of Salina, great-grandchildren Hannah Brown and Elijah Brown of Lost Springs, Kansas, one sister; Eleanor M. Dye and her husband Carl of Bella Vista, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents.
