Ronald Dean Mace, M.D., 72, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015, at the Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Laurie Barnes officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, KS. A public visitation will not take place. The family has designated memorial contributions to be given to the Dr. Ronald D. Mace Fund for Medical Education, c/o Geary Community Healthcare Foundation, PO Box 3015, or to the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson Street, both in Junction City, KS 66441.
Ronald was born May 18, 1942, in Sterling, KS, the son of Lloyd and Violet (Wibbeler) Mace.
Ronald graduated from High School in Bethany, OK and attended Bethany Nazarene College. Prior to graduating, he joined the United States Air Force, serving four years as an Aeromedical Evacuation Corpsman during the Vietnam War. After completing his service, he graduated from Bethany Nazarene College. He went on to receive his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. After completing his rotating internship at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK, he moved to Junction City, KS, July 1975, and opened his medical practice. He continued his practice until his retirement in June, 2013. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was the director of the University of Kansas School of Medicine Rural Track Residency Program in Junction City and trained 15 Family Medicine Residents.
Ronald married Andrea Felts October 22, 1965, in Oklahoma City, OK.
Survivors include his wife Andrea of the home in Junction City. He is also survived by one daughter Dr. Rhonda Mace and her husband Gordon Gunderson of Junction City and his twin granddaughters Andrea DeAnn and Laura RuthAnn Gunderson. Other survivors include two sisters, Naomi Phinney of Wichita, KS, Wanda Hart and her husband Delbert of Norman, OK; three brothers, Eugene Mace and his wife Sally of Washington, IL, Glenn Mace and his wife Marilee of Sterling, KS and Jack Mace and his wife Deanna of Hutchinson, KS; one sister-in-law Jeanie Felts-Taylor; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Alvin Mace, one sister-in-law Martha, a nephew Randy and a niece Ryanne.
His passions included taking care of his patients, team-roping, water-skiing, trap-shooting, and spending time with his family
