Dr. Arsenia Lugtu Magalong, 66, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at her home in Junction City surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Fr. Kyle Berens will officiate. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Following the service, cremation will take place. A future memorial service and burial of cremated remains will take place in Dagupan City, Philippines.
Arsenia was born the youngest of six children on December 2, 1950, in Lepanto, Benguet, Philippines, the daughter of Isaias and Irenea (Cabico) Lugtu.
Dr. Arsenia Lugtu-Magalong graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education in Biology from the Arellano University, Manila in 1971. She finished her Master of Arts in Science Education at the Lyceum-Northwestern University in 1985 and finally completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Science Education from the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation.
Dr. Magalong started as a classroom teacher in 1971 in Sta. Cruz, Marinduque. In 1973, she went to work for the San Fabian High School in Pangasinan. In 1976, she became a College Instuctor, Department Head, and College Dean at Lyceum-Northwestern University in Dagupan City. Upon her retirement in 2009, she immigrated to the United States and worked as a part-time Science Instructor at Cloud County Community College at the Junction City Campus.
Dr. Magalong was happily married to Maximo Q. Magalong, a long time businessman from the Philippines. She is also survived by two daughters, Ruth Anne L. Magalong-Dela Cruz of Junction City, KS and her husband Rey; Judith Anne L. Magalong of Dagupan City, Philippines and her partner Richard; three grandchildren, Ryan Macrae M. Dela Cruz, Raeanne Mauve M. Dela Cruz and Richard Matthew M. Saplaco; five siblings, Pedro C. Lugtu, Alfredo C. Lugtu, Carmelita L. Tagudar, Teresita L. Aspuria and Elpidio C. Lugtu.
