Douglas Edward Hanson

April 12, 1983 — February 4, 2017

Douglas Edward Hanson, 33, passed away on February 4, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Bonnie, and 2 children, Easton, 9, and Emmalyn, 2 1/2, all of Council Grove.

Douglas was born in Edmonds, WA, April 12, 1983, one minute after his twin brother, Daniel. This pair was welcomed by big sister Monika, father Mark, and mother Tammi.

Doug graduated in 2001 from North Pole High School. He loved participating in Karate, Archery, and Football. He was an avid Hockey Player. Active in the North Pole High School JROTC program, he confirmed his passion and soon began serving in the US Military as an infantryman in the Army.

While serving in Iraq in 2004, Doug sustained multiple injuries to his spine. Ever the soldier, he returned to serve further in 2005. A Purple Heart recipient, Doug medically retired from the Army in 2009.

Doug's most incredible achievement and personal satisfaction came from being a father. A dedicated family man, Doug loved deeply and unconditionally. He would move mountains for his family and his pride and dedication never wavered. He will forever be remembered as the best Dad ever.

In addition to his family, Doug was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and trap and hung his trophies on his walls proudly. Doug also loved being on the water and fishing for bass whenever he could get on his boat. Doug was honored to fish with some of the best in Kansas, working hard and even reeled in some competition-winning bass. It was even noted, that Doug was "definitely a fisherman to watch out for next year".

Doug was also involved with various Veteran and Wounded Warrior projects. He found comfort and comradery with others who had similar experiences in the Military.

His family is deeply appreciative for the physicians and programs that have been so instrumental in helping him all these years.

In addition to his immediate family, Doug is loved by many other friends and family members, too many to list. Please know his love for you is just as strong as your love for him. Rest peacefully, Douglas Edward Hanson. We are proud of you, our American Hero.
