Dorothy W. Werts, 77, Junction City, KS died Wednesday January 15, 2003, at a Junction City nursing home.
She was born April 30, 1925, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Murray A. and Edith (Coffman) Wilson, spending her early years in Pratt and Salina, KS. She graduated with a bachelor's degree, with honors, in art from Kansas State University, where she served as president of her sorority, Chi Omega, and as a member of Mortar Board. Mrs. Werts later completed graduate art courses at both Washburn University and the University of Kansas.
Mrs. Werts was a member and past chapter president of the PEO Sisterhood. She had served on the Friends of Art Advisory Committee at Kansas State University and, also, as president of the Legislative Wives in Topeka. While living in Topeka, she had been ordained a ruling elder at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. She had been very active in the Junction City Little Theatre for many years, having served on its board and as president; also, she designed and created stage scenery and program covers along with directing and acting on stage.
She married Merrill H. Werts in 1946, he survives of the home. Other survivors include Four Sons; Steven M. Werts of Prairie Village, KS, Riley J. Werts of Merriam, KS, Todd J. Werts of Kansas City, MO and Kelly M. Werts of Fairway, KS, Four grandchildren, One Sister; Mary Helen Hayman of Chapel Hill, NC, also surviving are her beloved daughters-in-law.
Mrs. Werts was cremated. A Celebration of Life family gathering will be held at a later date.
