Mrs. Dorothy Jean "Dottie" (Knapp) Greenawalt, 85 years old passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at Brookdale, Junction City Kansas. Dorothy was born September 12, 1932, Clay Center, KS to parents Lloyd L. and Delilah (DeBoer) Knapp. Dorothy graduated from Junction City High School in 1950 and attended Kansas State University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married Edward H. Bauerband Jr. of Elizabeth NJ in Junction City on Dec. 27, 1952. Edward was an US Army aviator. They had two sons Stephen R. and Scott E. Bauerband. Edward and Dorothy divorced in 1966. She married Donald R. Greenawalt on November 19, 1977 at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City, KS. Don and Dorothy were very involved and enjoyed being in masonic activities where they held several leadership positions. They also loved to travel in their Fifth wheel camper, taking cruises and taking Shrine Trips.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended Cloud County Community College, graduating with an Associate in Applied Science degree on May 12, 1995. She worked at Fort Riley in the procurement department progressing to the Procurement Manager on retirement. After retiring she worked at the US Calvary Association at Fort Riley for several years.
Dorothy is survived by son Stephen R. Bauerband and his wife Patricia J. of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren Brian (Knoxville, TN) and Jacqueline (San Antonio, TX) and son Scott E. Bauerband and his wife Myra of Monroe, New York; three step sons, Merlin and his wife Gail, Gary and his wife Joanne and Keith and his wife Lori; her niece Phoebe and Wally Pitney of Sisters, OR; four step grandchildren, Dustin, Ryan, Angella and Lee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald R. Greenawalt on January 17, 2008 and sister Mayawilda Griffiths in May 26, 2011 of Clay Center, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday October 11, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church. Pastor Sue Trei-Conrad will officiate. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial to follow the funeral at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Isis Shrine Children's Travel Fund and/or Accord Hospice in Manhattan.
