Dorothy J. Coleman, 87, of Junction City, died on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. in Junction City. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 624 N Jefferson St., Junction City, KS with Pastor James Callaway officiating. Burial will follow the service at Fort Riley Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Dorothy's memory have been designated to the American Heart Association, 5375 W. 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606 or to the Good Shepherd Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Drive, Manhattan, KS 66503.
Dorothy was born on July 29, 1925 in McKenney, VA to Edgar and Nellie Mae (Wynn) Eastwood. She attended local schools for most of her childhood and graduated from Dinwiddie High School in McKenney, VA. She was married to Wilbur "Bill" Coleman on December 22, 1949 in McKenney, VA. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2003.
As a military wife, Dorothy lived with her husband and her family in several different military installations throughout the United States and Germany. Upon Wilbur's retirement at Fort Riley KS, he and Dorothy made their home in Junction City.
Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Junction City for many years. One of her greatest accomplishments throughout her life was her work as a Tupperware sales consultant. She sold Tupperware for over 30 years and met many people and made many lifelong friends. Dorothy was an avid gardener, she loved to read, and was a fantastic visitor and an even better host. She loved people and she loved her family.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Ed and Kim Coleman of Junction City; and by two daughters, Wanda Coleman of Junction City, and Donna Coleman of Wichita. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Shannon Ericksen of Lenexa, KS; Torrie and husband Tevis Denton of Alamorgodo, NM; Clay Crocker and Cordell Coleman, both of Junction City; Jacqie and husband David Reisinger of Junction City; Adam Watson of Overland Park, KS; and Ricky Shadix of Wichita. Special in her life were her great-grandchildren Alyssa, Nathan, Jalen, Leila, Reighley, Levi, and Liam. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews in Kansas, Virginia, and California as well as three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a very special friend, Charles Maxwell of Junction City.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Coleman, by her parents, Edgar and Nellie Eastwood, by two brothers, Edward and Ryland Eastwood, and by two sisters, Estelle Cliborne and Virginia Meredith.
