A family service for Dorothy Hinman, 93, of Junction City will be held at Old Mission Chapel Mausoleum in Wichita. Dorothy died Friday, May 8, 2009 at Valley View Care Center, Junction City, where she had lived since 2001.
She was born in Wichita to Leslie and Frances Bragg on February 15, 1916 and was married to Bill Hinman in Wichita on June 4, 1941. Dorothy worked for the Wichita Eagle newspaper and at Boeing Aircraft as a telephone operator when the plant had only one switchboard. Her husband was with the Missouri Pacific Railroad until 1961 when they moved to Bellflower, California to manage Lord Tire Company.
Retirement brought them back to Junction City in 1986 to be near their family.
Dorothy was a member of Ivy Leaf Eastern Star Chapter, P.E.O. Chapters RU (California) and GO (Kansas), The Ladies Reading Club and First Presbyterian Church in Junction City. She enjoyed all the friends she made living in Valley View Senior Care for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son, Jackie and Ken Burgoon, Junction City; grandchildren, Bill and Sue Burgoon and great-grandsons, Zach and Nick Burgoon of Topeka; granddaughter, Leslee Willey of Junction City; great-granddaughters, Sara Willey of San Dimas, CA; and Mackenzie Willey and great-great granddaughter, Emma Leigh of Manhattan.
There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th Street, Junction City, KS 66441. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Junction City, KS assisted the family with cremation arrangements.
