Doris Eileen (Wagler) Peterson, 88, of Junction City, died peacefully in Valley View Senior Life on April 25, 2019.
Doris was born March 21, 1931 in Morton, Illinois, the daughter of Alpha and Vera Wagler, but later was adopted by Alpha's brother and his wife Louie and Erma in 1934.
She graduated from Madison (KS) High School in the Class of 1949.
She married Walter "Pete" Peterson on September 24, 1950 in Pratt, Walter died March 19, 1998.
Doris and Pete lived in Iuka for many years and she worked at both the First National Bank in Pratt and the Iuka State Bank.
After moving with her husband to Junction City in 1966 from Iuka, Doris began working for the school district as a cafeteria lady. She later worked at Montomery Publishing as an advertising secretary until her retirement in 1996. Doris was accomplished at cross-stitching and frequently created gifts for family and friends. Doris was a generous individual who loved birds, but was passionate about cats.
Doris is survived by her sons, Kirk Peterson, Kerry Peterson, and Kyle Peterson and his wife Penny, all of Junction City, and Kevin Peterson and his wife Kay, Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother, Earl Wagler and his wife Dorothy, Keshena, Wisconsin; a sister, Phyllis M. Innes, Apache Junction, AZ; 2 grandchildren, Kira Cook and Kelly Peterson; 2 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and her 2 grandcats, Kif and Spicy. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Al Wagler.
A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Iuka Cemetery, Iuka, Kansas.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation or to The Friends of Animals.
