Doreen Caraher Manning, 78, of Junction City, passed away October 12, 2007, after an extended illness at Stoneybrook Retirement Community, Manhattan, KS. Private family services will be held at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
Ms. Manning was born July 16, 1929, Gary, IN to Bernard and Doreen (Shephard) Caraher. She was a graduate of Notre Dame University with honors where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She was a journalist in Chicago and Mexico where she met her former husband Robert F. Manning. She would go on to teach the History of Arts at Manchester Community College in CT. She then taught High School and Elementary School in Auchterarder, Scotland "Great Britain." She was a member of the Scottish Historic Society and created the Caraher Family History Society. She also worked as a historian specializing in genealogical work and studies.
She is survived by two sons; Adrian Manning of Orono, ME, Timothy Manning of South Windsor, CT and one daughter; Alexandra Leishman of Junction City, KS, one sister Josepha Caraher of Baltimore, MD and seven grandchildren; Joshua Manning, Joseph Manning of ME, Tamira Leishman, Hailey Leishman and Sarah Leishman of KS, Courtney Manning and Shea Manning of CT, two nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters; Theodora (Teddy) Duchein and Michele (Mickey) Caraher.
