Donald Wayne Sadler

April 26, 1928 — November 25, 2016

Donald Wayne Sadler, 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on November 25, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital. Don was born on April 26, 1928 on the family farm Southeast of Amidon, North Dakota to Pete and Oral (Gift) Sadler. He attended country school in rural Amidon and graduated from New England High School in 1946.

Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific aboard the LST 45 from 1946-1948. After serving his country he returned to the Amidon area to work on the family farm and later worked in the oil fields around Baker, MT. On 2 July 1950, he was united in marriage to Lois Ronning in Scranton, ND. Together they had six children; Bonita F. Bresnan, Rex A. (Jackie) Sadler of St. Michael, MN, Mona L. Patrick of Ten Sleep, WY, Donald W. Sadler, Jr, James C. Sadler of Weatherby Lake, MO and Patricia K. Askew of Cavalier, ND.

Don later married Margaret Schell (Schumacher) in Missoula, MT. Of this marriage, one child was born; Barney A. (Denise) Sadler, Manhattan, KS. On 19 Oct 1977 Don married Jewell Blum in Dallas, TX.

Don lived in Billings, MT for many years where he was a small business owner. He loved to go fishing on the Yellowstone River and also fished with friends in Canada and Alaska. He liked to travel and has visited the Philippines, Korea, Japan, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Europe over the years and was proud of the fact that he had been in all 50 states. After he retired from his businesses, he moved to New England, ND to be closer to family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards nearly every morning at several of the local businesses with his regular group of friends. He eventually got tired of the cold North Dakota winters and moved to Las Vegas, NV. He lived there for nearly 20 years and was a great tour guide and ambassador to the city for all his family and friends that came to visit. In 2013, he decided to move to Manhattan to live with his son Barney and his family and also to spend time in Weatherby Lake with his son James. He spent his final years relaxing watching baseball, Gunsmoke and the squirrels running around outside.

Don is survived by his 3 sons and 2 daughters along with 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonita and son Donald Jr., his brother LeRoy (Red) Sadler and his parents Pete and Oral (Gift) Sadler.

Dove Cremation & Funeral Service of Junction City, Kansas, is assisting the family with arrangements. Don requested cremation. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
