Funeral services for Donald R. Greenawalt, 80, of Junction City will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Burial with military honors and masonic service will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2008, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel 203 N. Washington Street. Mr. Greenawalt passed away January 17, 2008 at Chapman Valley Manor. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Isis Shrine Children's Travel Fund and/or Home Health & Hospice, c/o Geary Community Health Care Foundation.

Mr. Greenawalt was born September 10, 1927, Princeton, KS to Ralph D. and Marie O. (McCall) Greenawalt. The family moved to Paola, KS in 1938. He attended country grade school at Greenawalt School House, and was a member of 4-H for 8 years and he served as president. He graduated from Paola High School in 1945 he worked for Missouri/Pacific Railroad in 8 hour shifts his senior year in high school. He was drafted into the army out of high school where he served in Field Artillery Battalion as a Motor Sgt stationed in Mason, Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He worked as a pipe welder until 1952. He leased two service stations in Junction City, KS for 29 years and sold out and went into owning rental property and repairing property for other people.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He served as Cub Master and Asst. District Commissioner of Boy Scouts. In 1977 he was awarded the Merit of Scouting. He was a Charter member of the Sertoma Club and a lifetime member as well where he had 30 years of perfect attendance and served as President twice. He was in charge of building and maintaining the Sertoma Park and softball field for 25 years. He joined the Masonic Lodge No. 357 in Paola in 1950 and transferred to Union Lodge No. 7 in Junction City in 1956. He joined the York Rite and Isis Shrine in 1950. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Legion of Honor, Junction City and Fort Riley Shrine Club, Isis Nomads Camp Group, Eastern Star, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion. He served the Masonic Lodge as Chaplain and Secretary and Eastern Star as Worthy Patron 3 times and secretary 5 years. He was Commander of Legion of Honor in 1986 and in charge of Flag unit and parade marching unit of 10 years. He was elected in 1999 as Potentate of the Isis Temple.

He has three sons from his first marriage; Merlin who has one son, Dustin, Gary and wife Joann, they have one son Ryan in the Marines and one daughter Angella in college, Keith and wife Lori and their son Lee. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Knapp on November 19, 1977 at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City, KS she survives of the home. He has two step-sons; Stephen Bauerband and wife Patty and they have one son Brian and one daughter Jackie; Scott Bauerband and wife Myra. He is survived by two sisters; Jeanne and husband L. Bruce Johnson, Martha and Dr. Henry Miller and sister-in-law Phyllis Greenawalt.
