Don was born on November 3, 1944 to Leslie and Mildie (Harloff) Nelson in Junction City, Kansas. He graduated from White City High School in 1962.
He spent over 40 years working for Konza Construction as a heavy equipment operator and eventually worked his way to the position of company superintendent. He also worked for Geary County Public Works Department where he ran heavy equipment along with many other duties.
Don was passionate about farming and he loved sharing that passion for agriculture and nature with his grandchildren and his family. Some of his greatest pleasures were taking John Deere tractor rides with the grandkids and feeding treats to his loving dog Cassie.
Donald married Lois Hoff on July 1, 1967 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Junction City. They loved and cared for each other throughout their years together. Over the years, Don never missed a chance to celebrate a special occasion by bringing Lois beautiful bouquets of flowers. Just as he did, most recently, this past December to celebrate the 48th anniversary of their first date.
He is survived by his wife Lois Marie (Hoff) Nelson of Junction City, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Marie Meyer and husband Kyle and their children Grace, age 6 and Luke, age 5, of Goldsboro, North Carolina. He is also survived by three brothers, Orville and wife Angie of Junction City, KS, Larry and wife Frieda of White City, KS and Bob and wife Penny of White City, KS. Don was also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him and looked up to him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Ralph Nelson.
