Graveside services for Donald E. "Don" Small, 56, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Skiddy Cemetery with Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Don's wishes were for his friends and family to have a casual celebration.
Mr. Small passed away on September 12, 2011 of lung cancer at his home with family by his side. In lieu of flowers the family has designated memorial contributions to Friends of Animals or to the Hunter's Safety Program.
Don was born December 11, 1954, Junction City, Kansas to Ralph and Maxine (Kramer) Small. He was a graduate of Junction City High School class of 1972. During his working career, Don worked for Mikes Conoco, Don Coates Chevrolet, Woolworths, City of Junction City and Footlocker Distribution center formerly Woolworth for over 20 years retiring in July 2010.
Don loved to be outdoors and he loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed restoring trucks and working in his vegetable garden and canning juice, salsa and pickles. Don hosted his "pre-funeral/ going away" party Saturday, September 3rd with a frog leg/fish fry BBQ. He looked forward to this event and enjoyed his friends and family who shared it with him.
He is survived by his parents Ralph and Maxine Small of Junction City, two children; Chris Small and his wife Allison and Lori Harold and her husband Jason all of WA, two grandsons, Carter and Ty Harold of WA. A brother Dale Small and his wife Eileen of Junction City, his sister; Ethel Jacobson and her husband Jerry of Abilene, three nieces, Stephanie Edmonson and her husband George, Kelly Kramer, Heather Razak and her husband Ross. One nephew, Jason Jacobson and his wife Candace, Littlest Fishing Buddy Karley Kramer and many relatives and a host of friends.
Casket bearers will be John Ehlers, Richard Roeser, Gary Heller, Ed Woods, Dan Shrouf and Jim Brethour.
Honorary bearers will Gina Marker, Debbie (Fausnett) Sanders, Sherry (Hoppenstedt) Shrouf, Ruth (Long) Sanders, Jayne (Engstrom) Karmann and Patty (Rhodes) Maycroft.
