Donald "Don" E. Hamilton, 79, retired farmer and credit union manager, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, April 4, 6 - 8 pm, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Friday, April 5, 2013 at Johnson Chapel, with Reverend Gale Lund officiating. A memorial has been established with the NRA, 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030.
Don was born November 27, 1933 in South Haven to Gale and Norma (Welch) Hamilton. He graduated from South Haven High School. Don joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in Korea during the war from 1954-55. He was awarded the Korean Defense Service Medal in December 2012. Following his discharge he attended Kansas State University. He worked in various positions in the banking industry and was a farmer most of his life. He was an avid hunter and supporter of the National Rifle Association.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Norma Hamilton; and brother, Vernon Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; daughter, Rebecca (Tim) Hall of Wichita; son, Don (Patricia) Hamilton of Silver Lake; sister, Gloria Kilian of Derby; grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Alex, Chance and Chase.
