Funeral services for Donald (Don) Goodwin, 79, of Junction City will be held at the First Christian Church, St. Mary's Road, Junction City, at 11:00AM, Friday, December 28, 2007 with Darel Boston officiating. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, December 27, at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery, Junction City.
Don passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at Valley Memorial Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. He had been hospitalized since having a cardiac arrest on Thursday, December 13, 2007.
He was born May 30, 1928 in Republic County, Kansas and was the son of Claude and Maude Goodwin of Scandia, Kansas. Don graduated from Scandia High School in 1946 and continued with 6 months of Wichita Business College.
He married Iona Vollan on November 22, 1950 in Mankato, Kansas and moved to Junction City at that time and later to that union 2 children, Mike and Sherry were adopted whom he loved very much.
Don was a business man and owned and operated the 1st Used Car Sales Dealership in 1951, and was later joined by his friend and brother-in-law "Lefty" Guiot. In 1967 they added camping trailers and later was the franchise dealer for "Mobile Traveler" and numerous other brands of RV's. At the present time Mike is carrying on the business with the Car Sales. Don loved to travel, play cards and was a winter Texan.
Don holds a membership of 50 years at First Christian Church, 51 years with the Noon Kiwanis Club and 40 years as an Elk member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, "Casey", a sister, Marjorie and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Guiot.
He is survived by his wife, Iona, of the home. Daughter Sherry and her husband, Jeff Ingles, Lawrence; Son, Mike and wife, Leslie Goodwin, Junction City; 7 grandchildren, Tad and Trevor Ingles; Erika, Seth, Morgan, Charly and Cole Goodwin; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, Don can be remembered by memorials to First Christian Church or to the Noon Kiwanis Club.
