Funeral services for Dock Columbus Bullard, 60 of Junction City, will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Leonard Gray and Reverend Dr. Aurelio Belardo officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Bullard will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue, from 6-8 p.m. tonight. Dock Columbus Bullard was born July 11, 1947 in Selma, AL to Willie Mae Burke and the late David Bullard. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Valley View Professional Care Center in Junction City, Kansas.
Dock was united in marriage to Bernice Wills on September 5, 1970 in Selma, Alabama, to this union one beautiful and dutiful daughter was born, Stephanie Michelle.
Dock completed his elementary schooling at Clark Elementary in Selma, AL. His high school education was completed at R.B. Hudson in Selma, AL. Dock entered the Marine Corps in 1965, served one tour of duty in Vietnam, and was discharged in 1969. He attended John H. Patterson Vocational Technical School in Montgomery, AL. In 1973, Dock enlisted in the U.S. Army and retired in 1989. He attended Central Texas College, Ft. Riley, Kansas State University and Manhattan Christian College.
Dock confessed Christ at an early age, at the Green Street Baptist Church under the pastoral of Reverend Andrew Mosley, Sr. He attended many different churches and chapels during his military career. Upon retirement, he joined Secondary Missionary Church in 1990, and served as president of the usher board, Sunday school teacher, and a very dedicated church worker. Dock was always willing and able to assist anyone he could, whether it was Junction City High School and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Alumnae Chapter assisting his wife. Dock was known for GETTING THINGS DONE!
His greatest thrills were fishing, going to the Casino, traveling, talking, shopping, cooking, spending time with his wife when ever possible, and visiting his daughter and her family. Dock knew no strangers and had no enemies. Dock Columbus Bullard's life, his encouragement and presence will be greatly missed by his wife, daughter, grandsons, his family, church family, past co-workers and friends.
His father, David Bullard and grandson David Samuel Nurse preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Bernice of the home; daughter Stephanie Michelle Nurse and Son-in-Law Russell Nurse, of San Antonio, TX , three brothers, David Bullard of Ft. Wayne, IN, Richard Pettus and Ralph Pettus both of Tacoma, WA, one sister; Aurtherine Tyree of Selma, AL, one sister-in-law Georgia Reese and husband Pete of Los Angeles, CA, three brothers-in-law, William Wills of Junction City, KS, Willie Wills of Selma, Al, Gavin Howard of Iowa City, IA, three grandsons, Stefan and Michael of San Antonio, TX and Andrea of Lubbock, TX, Special friends Joe Belardo, Novella Lewis, Greg Paine and George and Shirley Lyles.
