Dewain "Dean" A. Hettenbach, 85, of White City, KS, passed away on August 11, 2016 at his home. Dove Cremation and Funeral Service, Junction City, Kansas, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016, 2:00 PM, at the White City United Methodist Church, 204 W MacKenzie St, White City, KS 66872.
Memorials are suggested to the Friends of the White City Library.
He was born on December 13, 1930, near Woodbine, Kansas to Samuel and Dora (Timm) Hettenbach. He graduated from White City High School and Emporia State University. After graduating, he taught school in the area for several years before going to work for IBM. While working for IBM he had the opportunity of traveling overseas and all over Kansas. He retired from IBM in 1993 after 35 years of service. While at IBM, he was awarded the Award for Significant Achievement (Domestic), and the Award for Significant Achievement (Overseas).
Dean was President of the Friends of the White City Library for many years.
On March 23, 1978, he married Myrna "Jeanie" Hircock-Peck. They lived in White City, Kansas.
Dewain "Dean" is survived by his loving Wife, Myrna "Jeanie" of White City, KS; his Daughter, Valery Hettenbach-Sorrell of England; Son, Derek (Anita) Hettenbach of England; Step-Son, Mitchell Peck of Latimer, KS; Step-Daughter, Christene (Wayne) Peck-Hultgren of Americus, KS; 6 Grandchildren; 2 Great-grandchildren; and 2 Beloved Furry Companions, Molly and Gus.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Samuel Hettenbach and Mother, Dora (Timm) Hettenbach; Brother, Laverne Hettenbach; Sister, Evelyn Hettenbach; and 2 Beloved Furry Companions, Sammy and Duke.
