Funeral services for Denzel R. "Doc" Gumm, 86, of Junction City will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 4p.m. with Reverend Dr. Joe Belardo officiating at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Visitation will be held at 3p.m. one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will take place at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 10a.m. Mr. Gumm passed away at Geary Community Hospital on August 19, 2011. Memorial contributions have been designated to the American Legion, Post #45, 201 E. 4th Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Doc was born April 12, 1925, Grantsville, WV to Dessmen and Mercie (Yoak) Gumm. He served in the U S Army for over 20 years as a Utilities Foreman. He then worked for civil service as a Heavy Equipment Inspector for 31 years retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #45 and had served as the historian he was also a member of the Kansas Municipal Judges Association of Grandview Plaza. He enjoyed bowling and working outside.
He married Susie (Uehara) October 6, 1953 she survives of the home.
Other survivors include his daughter, Margaret A. Fisher of Junction City, brothers, Delmar Gumm (Isabelle), Dowen Gumm (Sheila) all of IL and Destal Gumm (Diane) of AR, sister, Dorcie Pigg (Harold) of IL, three grandchildren, Crystal M. Fisher, Brandy Rivera and Mandy Fisher and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Delena Hall.
