Dennis William Costlow, 61, Junction City, KS died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK awaiting a lung transplant. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of the Demuth Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, OK. A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2012, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road Manhattan, KS with full military honors. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be given to the Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Road, Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910 or online at www.VVA.org.
Dennis was born on October 8, 1951, in Beaverdale, PA to Robert and Hazel Costlow. He married Diane Kelly on July 3, 1972 in Junction City, KS. They later divorced. He was blessed with three loving children with Diane, Kelly Jean, Dennis William, Jr. and Michael Scott.
On October 15, 1999, he married the love of his life Cindy Kramer in Miami, OK. She showed him how to stop and take time to smell the roses throughout his life. This become a hobby for him, growing and tending to his rose gardens every year till his time on earth was cut short. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking walks in the woods and enjoying life to its fullest.
He served in the U S Army during the Vietnam War as an engineer and mobile crane operator. He was always a proud veteran. After leaving the army, he continued his love of the construction field building houses, public building and specialized in bridges all over the United States and several in the State of Kansas. He was employed by Bridges, Inc. of Newton, KS at the time of his death.
His time with his wife and children and grandchildren were very special always, they brought a smile to his face even on the roughest days. He loved spending time with his pets Rowdy, Tuco and Little Miss Taylor. They will miss him dearly but he knows they will always take care of "Mama"
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Army Engineers Association, NRA, Trout Unlimited and the NWTF and the American Legion Post #45.
He is survived by his wife Cindy Costlow of Junction City. Two sons, Dennis Jr. and his wife Lori of Spring Hill, KS and Michael of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Kelly Skelton and husband Jeffrey of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by six grandchildren Christopher, Jordan, Michael Jr, Noah, Blake and Cooper. He is survived by two brothers, James Costlow of Kennedy, NY and Bob Costlow and his wife Lucy of Houston, TX. He is also survived by three sisters, Bonnie Nelson and her husband Ed of Ashville, NY, Debbie Guiffrida and husband Joe of Frewsbury, NY and Sandie Kost and husband John of Russell, PA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Richard "Dickey" Costlow.
