Graveside services for Daryl Wayne Gatza, 54, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Johns Cemetery, Junction City. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Pastor Matthew Glasgow will officiate. Mr. Gatza died March 30, 2002 at Geary Community Hospital, Junction City, KS.
Mr. Gatza was born June 27, 1947, Junction City, KS, he was the son of Marjorie (Gfeller) Davis and Richard T. Gatza. He graduated for Junction City High School in 1965. On January 25, 1969, he married Theresa K. Rose in Topeka, KS. In 1969 he was a ROTC Distinguished Military Student and graduate of Kansas State University, Manhattan, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business Administration. He was commissioned into the U.S. Army in 1969 and served as the Quartermaster Officer for Fort Lee Quartermaster School and the United States Logistics Management Center at Fort Lee,VA. After leaving the Army in 1971, he became part owner with his stepfather Webb Davis in the Western Auto Associate Store in Junction City. In 1973 he began his career at KJCK AM-FM Radio as a senior sales executive. In 1987 he became president and general
manager of Platinum Broadcasting, which is comprised of KJCK AM-FM and KQLA FM. In 1989 he earned the CRMC (Certified Radio Marketing Consultant) certification, which less than 5 percent of radio sales executives achieve. He was a member of the Junction City Chamber of Commerce, Junction city Booster Club, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Kansas State University,and the Junction City Elks Lodge, where he was a past exalted ruler. He was preceded in death by his father Richard in 1961. Survivors include his wife Theresa of the home; Two Sons, Richard Gatza and wife Lynette of Junction City, KS, and Brent Gatza and wife Laura of Gardner, KS; One Brother, Dale Gatza and wife Kay of Junction City; One Stepsister, Karen Flynn and husband Dennis of Overland Park, KS; his mother Marjorie Davis and stepfather Webb Davis of Junction City; one grandson, Brody Gatza of Gardner, KS; and many other family and friends.
Casket bearers will be Mark Ediger, Steve Roesler, Warren Pray, Dave Thornburrow, Dennis Adams and Larry Schlappi, Organist will be Vaudene Field and Vocalist will be Joe Markley
