Funeral services for SFC (Ret) Darrell L. Wright, 72, of Junction City will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with Reverend Dr. Joe Belardo officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mr. Wright passed away at his residence on April 24, 2008.
Mr. Wright was born April 5, 1936, Carbondale, Il to Charles L. and Alpha May ( Frost) Wright. He entered the U S Army and served during Viet Nam retiring in 1982. While in the Army he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver and one bronze star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Occupational Medal, Army Commendation Medal with "V" First Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5th Award) Purple Heart, Expert (M-16 Rifle).
He married Linda Clark, March 9, 1977 in Muldraugh, Kentucky. She preceded him in death May 7, 2003. He has been a residence of the Fort Riley area since 1980. He managed Westside Cinema for 10 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors of Mr. Wright include his son, Ricky Lavern of Columbia, South Carolina, three daughters; Robin Boucher and her husband Ray of Ottawa, Canada, Karen Sullivan and her husband "Sully" Sullivan and Tina Wright all of Columbia, South Carolina; five grandchildren; Kenny Banta, Kristi Banta and Kelsey Banta all of Platte, City, MO, Ryan Sullivan and Laura Sullivan both of South Carolina and one great-grandchild, Destiny Sullivan.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norman Wright.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Burt Lusenhoff, Brian Boltz, Virlin Carter, James A. Butler, Jack Freeman and Tommie Ashley.
