Funeral services for Daniel L. Shrouf, 85, Junction City will be 10 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with Rev. Todd Britt officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS with full military honors . Mr. Shrouf passed away February 9, 2009 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Daniel was born September 3, 1923 in Concordia, KS to Lee D. and Mae Jesse (Roe) Shrouf. He graduated in 1941 from Concordia High School and served in the US Army 1943-1946 with the 20th Armored Div., Central Europe Campaign as a scout.
He married Lillian Darlyne Drury April 16, 1949. He was a 35 year employee of the Kansas Highway Commission and Kansas Department of Transportation as a civil engineer, retiring in 1981 due to heart problems. Dan was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son Doyle Micheal Shrouf and brother Jack Shrouf.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Lillian Darlyne Shrouf, daughter Deborah Tyrrel of Lenexa, KS, daughter Darla Joiner and husband Olle, Kansas City, MO, son Daniel J. Shrouf and wife Sherry of Junction City, KS, daughter Daphne Horigan and husband Mike of Manhattan, KS, nine grandchildren Ambre Tyrrel, Mitch Tyrrel and wife Jennifer, Zach Joiner and Wife Wendy, Rafe Joiner, Dylan Joiner, Danielle Shrouf and husband Richard Leistner, Dustin Shrouf, Gentry McClure and husband Tanner, and Maggie Horigan five great-grandchildren; Bradley, Haylee, Max, Hunter and Gavin.
Daniel was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends including his Friday morning coffee group.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Honorary Pallbearers will be David Sheaffer, Gail Robinett and Howard Warnock.
