Curtis Coates Sr, 68, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, KS. A visitation will be held 5-7 Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Highland Cemetery.
Curtis was born September 10, 1953, in Birmingham, AL the son of John B. and Doris L. (Fornis) Coates, Sr.
Curtis was married to Deborah A. Johnson. Deborah passed away September 20, 2021.
Curtis enjoyed doing yard work and helping others with their projects. He was very passionate about his dogs. He enjoyed Alabama Football and Basketball. He also enjoyed following the Boston Celtics and Miami Dolphins. His highlight was having the grandchildren come to home on weekends.
Survivors include one son, Curtis Coates, Jr. of Junction City, KS; three daughters, Stephfanie Coates and her husband Russell McIntosh, III of Junction City, KS, Mitzi Dunlap and her husband Bruce of Rockford, IL and Synthia Matthews of Tuscaloosa, AL; two brothers, John B. Coates, Jr. and Alvin Coates; three sisters, Carolyn Amison, Sheryl Reed and Tywanda Coates; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
