CSM (RET) Fred W. Davenport, 70, passed away at his residence on February 12, 2013. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1p.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with Reverend Redo Purnell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013, 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been designated to Geary Community Hospice, c/o the Geary Community Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441.
Fred was born April 17, 1942, Jellico, TN to William Garfield and Margie (Rue) Davenport.
He joined the U.S. Army January 14, 1964 and during his service to his country he received the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Star, Army Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal (9th AWD), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (2nd OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd OLC), Army Commendation Medal (10th OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1st OLC), Overseas Service Ribbon "4", Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver and 1 Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
He retired as CSM on August 30, 1994 after 30 years of service. Following his retirement he was Vice President of Pioneer Services Finance Company until January 31, 2011.
He married Virginia "Ginny" Herman November 12, 1983, Junction City, KS.
Fred is survived by his wife Ginny of Wakefield, KS, his daughter, Kelly Devin (Doug) of Junction City, KS, Geoff Cavalier of Greeley, CO, two sisters; Brenda Bryant (H.L.) of Edgewood, KY and Linda Stanford (Jimmy) of Jellico, TN and two grandchildren, Aaron Stevens and Mya Stevens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Johnny Gilreath.
