Creola B. Small, 87, of Junction City, died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Via Christi Medical Center in Manhattan. Creola was born August 16, 1929 in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of William M. & Magnolia (Bailey) Mann. She moved with her family to Detroit, Michigan, where she attended school and graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit. She was a homemaker. She was a member of 2nd Missionary Baptist Church and the St. Tabitha, Chapter #75 of the Order of Eastern Star.
She married Lorenzo Small on April 25, 1959 in Alton, Illinois. He survives. Others survivors include: 3 daughters, Minnie Robinson, Atlanta, Georgia, Juanita Garcia, Junction City, and Teresa Palmer and her husband U'Thai, Atlanta, Georgia; a son, John Walker, Jr. and his wife Audrey, Atlanta, Georgia; a step-son, Lorenzo James Small, Jr. and his wife Rose, Alton, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Erica James, Samira Hubbard, Tony Garcia, Thailer Palmer, Dayton S. Hyatt, and Tahnell Palmer; and 6 great grandchildren. Creola was preceded in death by a brother, William M. Mann, Jr., a sister, Vivian Champion, and a son-in-law, Freddie Garcia-Sanchez.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017 at 2nd Missionary Baptist Church in Junction City, with Rev. Redo Purnell presiding. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan. The family will greet friends on Thursday, Mar. 9, 2017, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel, Junction City.
