Clayton Eugene Moon of rural Junction City died Wednesday, December 12, 2012, as a result of a tractor accident on his farm. He was 80 years old. Visitation will be held at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 North Washington, Junction City, Kansas on Monday, December 17, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm and the funeral will be held at 10am Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Junction City. Reverend Duane Kessler will officiate, burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Junction City Retired School Personnel Scholarship Fund and may be sent to the Penwell Gabel Funeral Chapel.
Clayton was born on January 11, 1932 in Junction City, Kansas to parents Archibald Hamlin Moon and Cecile Knapp. Clayton married Lois Marie Hadin of Leonardville, Kansas on July 15, 1961 and the couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Clayton received a Bachelors degree from Kansas State University and his Master's degree in Education from Emporia State University. He started his teaching career in Woodbine, Kansas in 1955 and then transferred to Junction City where he taught 8th grade science until he retired in 1992.
Clayton lived his entire life in or around Junction City. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman when he was not gardening, baling hay, or taking care of his cows.
Clayton is survived by his wife Lois, his three sons: Allen and Jane Moon of Carrollton Virginia, Rodger and Carolyn Moon of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Ron and Kristie Moon of Junction City, Kansas, five grandchildren: Kristi, Andrew, Alexander, Jordan, and Lauren Moon, two step-grandchildren: Max and Paul Crandall, one Sister, Helen Post and husband Gaylord, and one Nephew Robert Post and wife Deanna all of Topeka, Kansas, cousin, Dorothy Greenawalt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Larry Kramer, John Kramer, Clinton Kramer, Dean Stockert, Steve Strauss and Robert Post.
