Clarence Elliott Carlton Sr, 97, of Junction City, KS, died Sunday December 20, 2015, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka, KS surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Sue Trei-Conrad officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow the funeral at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the donor's choice.
Clarence was born June 29, 1918, in rural Geary County, Kansas the son of John Henry and Martha (Dockins) Carlton.
Clarence attended a one-room grade school in rural Geary County with his two brothers and one sister. He graduated with the 8th grade class.
Clarence worked from December 1, 1969 to December 1, 1986 for KP&L as a meter reader in Junction City. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles both in Junction City. Clarence enjoyed dancing and playing cards with his wife Lucille. They also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
On March 1, 1942, he married Lucille Marie Glessner. Together, they had three wonderful children.
Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years, Lucille; one son, Clarence Carlton, Jr. of Kansas City, KS; two daughters, Vivian Macy of Warm Springs, OR. and Jolene Shumaker of Junction City, KS; six grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
