Funeral services for Clara McPheron, 75 of Junction City, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor James Callaway officiating. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will take place at a later date at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Mrs. McPheron passed away March 7, 2008 at her residence. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church, 624 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441.
She was born July 27, 1932 in Eaton, CO to Lloyd and Lucille (Espinosa) Ortega. Her family later moved to Pueblo, CO where she spent her childhood. She met the love of her life while residing in Denver in 1955. She married Robert J. McPheron on April 2, 1956 in Raton, NM. They were Married for 51 years, eleven months and five days.
Mrs. Mcpheron was a homemaker, working at a variety of jobs as she traveled with her husband, aiding him in his military career. Mrs. McPheron was impressed with this area when she arrived in 1965 and it was decided that upon retirement from the military in 1973 they would make this their home. No matter where she lived, she always made a home for her family and filled it with love.
Survivors include her husband Robert of Junction City, her mother Lucy Grant of Pueblo, CO, a brother, Manuel Ortega and wife Alice of Stockton, CA, a sister, Delores Herrera and husband Tony of Pueblo, CO, two sons, Jerome McPheron of the home and Richard Luna and wife Beatrice of Colorado Springs, CO, Grandson, Jed Luna and granddaughters, Tessia and Stephanie Luna all of Colorado Springs, CO, Starla J. Hall and husband Darryl of Belleville, NJ and Crystal D. McPheron of Ogden, KS and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Ortega, a sister, Pauline Ortega and brothers, Paul, Daniel, Rick and Michael Ortega.
