Christopher Iaukea

SGT Christopher Iaukea, of Junction City, KS passed away at the age of 34 at home on June 10, 2010. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 12, 1975. In 2002, Christopher Iaukea joined the United States Army and quickly rose to the rank of SGT. During SGT, Iaukea's service he deployed to Iraq from 2005 to 2006 with the 2-34 Armor Battalion in Fort Riley, Kansas, in support of Operation enduring Freedom. Over his military career he received the following Army decorations, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global war on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. On September 20, 2009, he retired from the United States Army. He was a patriot to his country and wanted to help others.

He is survived by his wife Laverne Iaukea, daughter Jadelynn Iaukea Shimizu, step-daughter Monica and husband Dennis Ahyo, step-son George and wife Deanna Kahakua Jr., mother Lillian Iaukea, grandmother Lilian Puaoi, mother and father in-law Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mattos, sister Donna and husband Kenneth Goodenow, brother George Iaukea Jr. and Leilana Ronquillio, nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a large number of family members and friends. Our family would like to give our love and appreciation to Mrs. Patti Walker and Master Sergeant Kevin Walker for their support through this difficult process. We also thank all of our wonderful friends and family. A Military Memorial service will be held at the Morris Hill Chapel, Fort Riley, KS on June 25, 2010 at 11am, a reception will follow at the Soldier and Family Assistance Center, Bldg 674 Warrior Rd, Fort Riley, KS.
