Charlotte O. (King) Sherry, age 72, died on September 17th, at the Kenwood View Rehabilitation Health Center, Salina, Kansas. A Memorial Service with full Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, September 27th, 2011, at 10a.m. at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery.
Charlotte was born on September 24, 1938, in Whitley County, Kentucky, the daughter of Emmett King and Rachel (Meadors) King.
Charlotte enlisted into the U.S. Army, where she met her future husband, Carl Lee Cotton, and the father of their four children. He preceded her in death.
She served over twenty years both active U.S. Army and Kansas National Guard. Her primary specialties included Personnel Records Specialist, Administration Specialist and Personnel Management Specialist. She retired from the Kansas National Guard on her 60th birthday. During her career she was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army 1/NCO-PROP-DEV-Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal.
Charlotte also owned and operated Char's Sewing Service in Abilene, Kansas and was well known for the beautiful quilts she created.
She is survived by her three daughters and one son, Pam Baca(Joseph Jr.) of Virginia Beach, VA, Janie Mendoza (Erich) of El Paso, TX., Joseph Cotton (Debra) of Junction City, KS., and Barbara Kelly of Ellsworth, KS. Seven grandchildren also survive Joseph Baca, III, Zachariah Baca, Kathryn Baca, Jennifer Daymude, Daniel Cotton, Andrew Kelly and Matthew Kelly and two great-grandchildren Jackson and Roselynn and one sister, Alma Dean Miller (Samuel) of OH.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett King and Rachel King, her first husband, Carl Lee Cotton and her second husband James Sherry, one daughter, Kathy Ann Cotton, two brothers, Hiram Finley and Perry Finley, two sisters, Ana Lorene Finley and Dorothy Finley.
