1SGT (Retired) Charles J. Overstreet, of Junction City, KS, passed away Monday, 18 April 2016 at Valley View Senior Life after a long battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. He will be having a viewing on Thursday, 21 April 2016 from 5-7 pm. Then a graveside service at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery on Friday, 22 April 2016 at 10 am where he will be buried with full military honors.
Charles (Chuck) was born in Colombia, KY on 28 January, 1956 to John and Gladys (Hovious) Overstreet. He grew up around a large family consisting of 5 siblings and many cousins. At the young age of 20, Charles decided to join the Army to follow in the footsteps of his brother and father. During his time in the Army, he had fought in the Persian Gulf war and was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious service metal and others. While he was stationed in Ft. Riley, he met his wife Hui Cha Overstreet. They tied the knot in July of 1991. Shortly after in 1996, Charles retired out of the military (out of Ft. Hood) and joined his wife in Junction City, Kansas in the barber career. Known as 'Grant Avenue Barbershop' they have been working side by side until 2011 when Charles was diagnosed with cancer. While retired, and on his good days he enjoy fishing, hunting and golfing with friends as well as tinkering on whatever project he had in his garage.
He is predeceased by his parents, John and Gladys Overstreet. As well as his brothers J.B, Junior, William, Terry Overstreet and his sister Wanda Crockett (Overstreet).
He is survived by his wife Hui Cha Overstreet (Milford, KS), daughter Susan Overstreet (Manhattan, KS) sons William, Jason and Steven Overstreet (Columbia, KY), and step daughter Sumi Leonard (Manhattan, KS).
