SSG (RET) Charles Humphreys, 85, of Junction City, passed away on May 12, 2015 at Geary Community Hospital. The family will greet friends on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 2p.m. to 4p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue, Junction City, KS 66441.
Charles was born December 31, 1929, Lake Providence, LA to Charlie and Olivia (Hayes) Humphreys. He joined the U S Army June 11, 1948, serving in the Korean War and Vietnam. He received numerous awards while in the military, the Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Stars; First Oak Leaf Cluster to National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device 1960; Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Charles retired honorably June 30, 1968. Following his retirement from the Army he worked as a Janitor at Junction City Junior High School and also for the railroad.
He was married to Oda (Bell) Humphreys she preceded him in death in 1992.
He is survived by his two daughters; Olevia Humphreys and Melvitta Parker both of Junction City, six grandchildren; Ronald Gilbert, Lanisha Hollingsworth, Constance Bryant, Dwan Humphreys, Joi Humphreys and Tia Parker, eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three daughters; Gloria Gregoire, Patricia Custis and JoAnne Sahms
