Charles H. Lewis

Charles H. (Chuck) Lewis, 80, passed away on November 22, 2010 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS after a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m,Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, KS.

He was born November 24, 1929 to Elmer L. and Nettie Jane (Barton) Lewis in Leona, KS. Chuck attended school there graduating from High School in 1946 and went to Highland Junior College for two years.

In 1951 he married Alice Hughes in Leona, KS before joining the U.S. Marines. He served two years in the Korean War and then returned to Deerfield, KS living there for over 50 years. Chuck was a member of the Deerfield Methodist Church, Deerfield Grange, Deerfield Lions Club and the Finney County VFW, Eagles and American Legion.

He married Glenda Rae Kettler in 1961 in Deerfield she died in 1980. In 1983 he married Irene (Ray) Stotler.

After retirement he and Irene enjoyed the RV life spending several winters in Yuma, AZ. They moved there to live full time in 2005 but due to Chuck's failing health they moved to Junction City, KS in January 2007 to be closer to their children.

Preceding him in death was his parents, his past wife, Glenda and a step-son Bill Ray.

Surviving are his wife, four sons, Rick, Randy, David and Brian Lewis, two daughters, Ramona Lewis and Rebecca & Jim Klino, two step-children, Jim Ray and wife Annette and Joan Macy, sisters, Ruby Lloyd of Eugene, OR and Ruth Bazley of Napa, CA, eleven grandchildren and several great- grandchildren.

Cremation will take place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the Deerfield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 200, Deerfield, KS 67838.
