Charles M. Cook, 65, of Milford, KS, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the New Church of the Living God with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating. Mr. Cook will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to New Church of the Living God, 1315 W. Ash Street, Junction City, KS 66441,.

Charles was born December 6, 1953, Phoenix, AZ to Katherine Robinson. He graduated from Westwood High School in 1971 Mesa, AZ. Charles served in the United States Army in 1972 and was honorably discharged in 1975.

Charles married Phyllis (Hammond) Currie June 20, 1975, in Junction City, KS.

Charles started his law enforcement career at the Hutchinson, KS Correctional Facility he then worked with the Geary County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff and the Department of Corrections in Topeka, KS. Charles changed careers and was a car salesman for many years working with Racey's Chevrolet, Dick Edwards Auto, Briggs Auto and Jim Clark Chevrolet.

In year's past Charles enjoyed coaching Girls Softball in Junction City, he was an avid Kansas University, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals Fan and he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, he loved being outside as well as working in his yard. Charles was a story teller and never knew a stranger, he helped many people and never expected anything in return. He will be missed dearly by his family and so many friends in the community.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis of the home; one son, Brewel Currie and wife Susan of Junction City, KS, two daughters, Antoinette Marie Johnson and her husband Steven of Burlington, NC and Tynika Rochelle Sutton and her husband Larry of Fayetteville, NC; his mother, Katherine Robinson of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Horace Bell, Jr. and his wife LaVera of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Bessie Lee Woodruff and her husband James of Phoenix, AZ grandchildren, Matthew Daniel Arevelo, El'Lisa Tychelle Currie, Navon Yoseph Abir Currie, Micah Yonah Amir Currie, Morgan Elon Simone Johnson, Jenica N'Chele Jackman and Bri'el Xiana Jean Currie; one great-grandchild, Joseph Arevelo.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive mother, Bessie Lee Cook, one grandson, Detric Johnson; one granddaughter, Gabrielle Currie.
