Charles L. Bauer, Jr., of Junction City, died Sunday, July 29, 2018 at his home. Charles was born Sept. 25, 1941 in Chillicothe, Ohio, the son of Charles L. Bauer, Sr. and Eugenia Evelyn (Miller) Bauer. Charles attended schools in Chillicothe and entered the U.S. Army right out of high school.
Charles spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army and he retired in 1980. After his military career was over, Charles worked for 18 years on the Geary County Sheriff's Dept. as a deputy.
Charles loved the outdoors; he loved fishing, hunting, camping, and eagle watching at Milford Reservoir.
Charles married Helen L. Hudgens in Peoria, Illinois on January 9, 1963. Helen survives in the home. Other survivors include: 3 daughters, Rhonda Gonzalez and her husband Edwin, Midwest City, Oklahoma, Mechille Wade and her husband James, Junction City, and Cynthia Bauer and her fiance' Kelly Scott, Junction City; 2 brothers, Gordon Bauer, Chillicothe, Ohio, and David Bauer, of North Carolina; a sister, Mary Lou Bauer, Davenport, Virginia; 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon Diamond.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, Kansas, with Pastor Ronnie Roberts presiding. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. Burial will follow.
