Carolyn C. Tate

Carolyn C. Tate, 74, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. A funeral service will be held 11a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020, at New Church of the Living God with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Mrs. Tate will lie in state 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the Johnson Funeral Home. The family will not be present during this time. Masks and social distancing are required.

(A legacy can be defined as the part of a person that lives on long after a person has transcended from the natural to the spiritual. It is the story of one's life that will be passed on for generations to come.)

Carolyn C. Tate's life story began on April 5, 1946 in Elberton, GA as the youngest of six children born to Sally Lou and George Carter.

While on her life's journey, Carolyn graduated from Blackwell Memorial High School in 1964 and Paine College in Augusta, GA where she received a Bachelor of Art Degree in Sociology with a Minor in English. After graduation she married the love of her life, James Tate, who was also her high school sweetheart, at the home of her brother Reverend Walter H. Carter who officiated the ceremony. She and her loving husband, who had enlisted in the army were blessed to live in Baumholder, Germany, Ft. Benning Georgia, and Ft. Riley, Kansas.

Carolyn was a dedicated employee for U.S.D #475 for 32 years. During the last twenty years she was the Director of the Head Start Program. Under her leadership hundreds of children received the foundational skills that would enable them to thrive during their educational advancement. She was committed to not only ensure and creating an atmosphere where essential learning could take place for students, but she was also unwavering when it came to providing support for her employees as well. She led with empathy, compassion, and staunch devotion.

Carolyn embodied the attributes of a virtuous woman, a loyal wife, an adoring mother, and a doting grandmother. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated for almost 40 years, and she enjoyed traveling to their National conventions with her husband and her youngest daughter Tagan who eventually became apart of the illustrious sisterhood of finer womanhood.
She was a faithful member of New Church of the Living God, alongside her husband, since its inception. It was there where she continued cultivating her walk with Christ to be a shining light for others.

Carolyn loved her family. She cherished the times that she spent with her husband, her daughters, her sons-in-love, and her two grandsons. She spoiled each of them in a way that only she could, leaving them feeling adored and valued beyond words. To have Carolyn in your life was to have an incomparable favor that can never be replaced and will never be forgotten.

She leaves a legacy of love, hope, perseverance, patience, joy, forgiveness, and strength. This legacy will continue to burn in the hearts of all of those who have had the privilege of knowing, growing, and thriving because of her impact. It is this that provides comfort in the midst of mourning that her legacy now boldly resides within those who live and therefore will never die.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, Sally Lou and George Carter; brothers, Reverend Walter H. Carter, George Carter, Jr.; sisters, Sallie Lou Carter Huff and Addie Mae Carter Hester.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, James H. Tate; daughter, Tiffany S. Tate-Collins, son-in-law, Charles M. Collins, her grandson, Mitchell T. Collins; daughter, Tagan S. Newbill, son-in-law, Perry R. Newbill, Jr.; her grandson, PerryJames C. Newbill; her sister, Connie Smith; brother-in-law, Eugene Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and loving friends.
