Carl J. Ehlers, 90, of Junction City, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City.
Carl was born December 7, 1928 in Geary County, the son of Alvin M. and Florence (Mass) Ehlers. Carl attended Junction City schools, and graduated from Junction City High School in 1946. He the later graduated from Coffeyville Junior College in Coffeyville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, being honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1954.
He was the owner and operator of Ehlers' Machine Shop in Junction City for many years.
Carl was member of the Zion United Church of Christ; the Masonic Lodge #437 A.F. & A.M. in Enterprise; the ISIS Shrine Temple of Salina; the Nomads of the Shrine; the Earl C. Gormley, Post #45 of the American Legion in Junction City; and was a 60 year member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1037 in Junction City.
Carl married Sylvia Lindhorst Opunui on August 22, 1981 in Chapman. Sylvia survives of the home. Other survivors include: 2 sons, John Ehlers and Robert Ehlers, both of Junction City; a daughter, Susan Erichsen and her husband Harold, Junction City; 2 step-sons, David Alexander and his wife Linda, Junction City, and Kenneth Alexander and his wife Linda of Minot, North Dakota; 2 step-daughters, Elizabeth Jeffers and her husband Keith of McLouth, and Patty Hurwitz and her husband Dr. Michael, Topeka; 2 grandchildren, Paul Erichsen and Amanda Tomlinson, and 2 great-grandchildren, Ashlee Erichsen and Ben Carl Erichsen. Carl was preceded in death by his only brother, Larry Ehlers; and a step-daughter, Sharon Moody.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Zion United Church of Christ, with Pastor Erik Graefe presiding. Cremation will follow the services. The family will greet friends 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. A private family inurnment in Wreford Cemetery will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given in Carl's name to the Shriners' Hospital or Zion United Church of Christ.
