Mr. Calvin William Gauntt, 81, passed away on October 2, 2015 at his home in Junction City. The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel. A celebration of life service will begin at 7:00 p.m. following the visitation. Private family burial will take place at Highland Cemetery.
Calvin was born on November 25, 1933 to Samuel "Dewey" and Clara (nee Johnson) Gauntt in Junction City, KS. On February 12, 1960 he married Linda Fay Allen in Junction City, KS. Calvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family.
He served in the US Army shortly after the Korean War. While there, he was on the all-German marksman team. After the Army, Calvin operated a Texaco at 13th and Washington, a Phillips 66 first on 6th and Jackson and then at 6th and Webster. He was always active in the community as a member of the Kiwanis, the Optimists Club, and the Junction City Youth Baseball Association. Later, he was a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Calvin is survived by his dearly loved friend, Mary "Susie" Parks of Junction City. His four children: Mary Jo (Dennis) Lacey of Andover, KS; Mike (Leann) Gauntt of Belton, MO; Mark (Tracie) Gauntt of Hoyt, KS; and Matt (Ellen) Gauntt of Oak Point, TX; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Calvin was proceeded in death by his wife Linda on September 2, 1993, his parents and all three brothers and two sisters.
