May 21, 1949 — March 2, 2019

Byron Lee McLean, 69, of Milford, KS, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street.in Junction City. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Milford Cemetery with Pastor Brian Mills officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends from 12-4 at the Elks Lodge in Junction City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Youth Activity Fund at the Junction City Elks Lodge #1037 P.O. Box 1212 Junction City, KS or to the Geary County Animal Shelter 2424 N. Jackson Street Junction City, KS 66441.

Byron was born May 21, 1949, in Ashland, KS, the son of Arthur "High" and Kathryn (Williams) McLean.

Byron graduated from Protection High School with the class of 1967. He attended Pratt Community Junior College and graduated in 1969. He later attended Ft. Hays State University. He attended both schools on a football scholarship. Byron worked for Parrott-Hoddnet in Hutchinson, KS. He later went to work for Stanion Wholesale Electric in Pratt. This career brought him to Junction City where he managed the Junction City and Manhattan branches. In 1992, he went to work for Western Extralite as an outside salesman. He retired in 2016. After retirement, he worked part-time at the Rolling Meadows Golf Course.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1037 in Junction City; Eagles Lodge; Sawyer United Methodist Church in Sawyer, KS. Byron was an avid fisherman and golfer. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas State Wildcats.


While attending Pratt Community College, he met Anita Novotny attending choir. They later married February 15, 1970, in Sawyer, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include, two daughters, Michelle McLean of Junction City, KS and Mica Soames and her husband Daniel of Topeka, KS; one brother, Barry Keith McLean and his wife Bonnie of Protection, KS; one sister-in-law, Diana McLean of Nowata, OK; one granddaughter, Allie Marie McLean; six nephews, Brian, Willie, Joe, Rudy, Jon and Steven.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Billy Joe.
