Burnice Colbert, 70, of Junction City, preceded into glory on July 15, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family, her last spoken words were of a heavenly language. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Faith Tabernacle Church with Pastor Nathan Dudley officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery.
She was born on March 21, 1944 in Marion, Arkansas to John Henry Evans and Bernia Ward. Burnice came to Junction City, KS in 1952 at the age of 8 years old, she went to school in Junction City, KS and she worked on a farm at the age of 14 years old to help provide for the family.
Grandma grew up and met then married Herman Gene Colbert in December of 1963, with that union 7 children were born, Sylvester, Maria, Elizabeth, Raymond, Cynthia, Timothy and Thurmond.
Her work included the Ramada Inn as a cook, Hanson Nursing Home as a cook, she also had odds and ends jobs here and there, in her later years she became involved in home health, something she enjoyed doing, helping others.
In March of 1974 at 30 years old she received the Holy Ghost in the barracks building.
Burnice lost her son Sylvester in 1985 and in 1993 she lost the love of her life her best friend Herman Colbert, as years followed in 2006 she lost her mother, her son Timothy and grandson all in the same year. December 31, 2013, she faced her biggest battle, which was fought for 7 months till the very end.
Burnice leaves behind her children, Maria Gardener (Willie), Elizabeth Whetstone (Anthony), Raymond Colbert (Regina), Cynthia Ajogbor (Michael) and Thurmond Colbert and her brothers and sisters, Ivory, Fanny Mae, J Ward, Vivian, Carl, Betty and Brenda and a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
