Funeral services for Bobby Franklin, Sr., 68, of Junction City will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Pentecostal Church, 5th & Adams with Pastor William Ocean officiating. Visitation will be Friday, July 24, 2009, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Burial with full military honors will take place on Monday, July 27, 2009, 10 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Mr. Franklin passed away at his residence on July 19, 2009. Memorial contributions have been designated to The Pentecostal Church, 5th & Adams, Junction City, KS 66441.

Mr. Franklin was born January 24, 1941, Thomasville, GA to Otis and Josie Belle (Thompson) Franklin. He joined the U.S. Army in 1962 and earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver & one Bronze Star, Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon "2", Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Army Achievement Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon "1" and the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired from the U.S. Army May 31, 1985 and then worked for Civil Service at Fort Riley, KS as Communications Operator for Range Control until retiring in 1996.

He married Ethelene Hester, July 31, 1963 in Thomasville, GA.

He is survived by his wife Ethelene of Junction City, his son, Bobby Franklin, Jr. of Leavenworth, KS, two daughters, Tamara Peterson and Katrina Franklin both of Wichita, KS, one brother, Curtis Franklin of Thomasville, GA, three sisters, Alma Boddie of Atlanta, GA, Dorothy Thompson of Thomasville, GA and Christina Daniels of Atlanta, GA, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, classmates and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Cynthia Carr.

Pallbearers will be Deacon Michael Sanders, Deacon Anthony Simms, Minister Benjamin Dickinson, Deacon Dominic Williams, Deacon Depoet Crawford and Deacon Larry Buckhannon.
