Blandina Strauss 94, Junction City went to be be with her Lord on October 30, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Vicar Christian Schultz officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel 203 N. Washington Street. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church 9719 Clarks Creek Rd. Junction City, KS. 66441 or to the Lutheran Hour Ministries 600 Mason Ridge Center St. Louis, MO. 63141.
Blandina was born January 9, 1917, at Hoskins, NE the daughter of Reverend Herman Fredrick and Louise Loescher Spiering. She came to Geary County when she was five years old and attended the Berry School and graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1935. She lived in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Parsonage until she was married. She married Paul F. Strauss at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He passed away June 14, 1975.
Blandina lived on the farm with her husband Paul. They grew crops and raised livestock. They also raised and sold different types of poultry and sold eggs to customers for many years. Blandina and Paul were recipients of many soil conservation awards over the years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and for many years served as organist and Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of the Missionary League and was a supporter of the Lutheran Hour Ministries. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Roger and Stephen Strauss who still reside in the home on the family farm. She is also survived by one daughter, Miriam Cassell and her husband James of Independence, MO. She is survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
