A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Fort Riley Cemetey for SFC Billy L. Keffer (Ret), 70, Junction City, Kansas. Mr. Keffer passed away Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the Geary Community Hospital. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Mr. Keffer was born June 18, 1936, in Eagle Ridge, West Virginia, the son of William and Deloris Keffer.
Mr. Keffer has resided in Junction City since 1977 having moved from Hawaii. Billy served 23 years in the U.S. Army and two tours of Vietnam. He was a drill instructor and chief of a fireing battery. He later worked as a Civil Service Employee for nearly 22 years.
He married Irma R. Williams Vigil on April 22, 1978. She surives.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Vigil and his wife Lori of Topeka, Kansas and Mark Vigil and his wife LeAnne of Junction City, Kansas. He is also survived by two daughters, Vivian Grimes and her husband Joe of Junction City, Kansas and Mary Taylor and her husband Kelly of Arlington, Texas. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou Millsaps and Linda Lancianese both of Madisonville, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Alvin, Bobby and Gary; sisters, Laura McKinney and Carley Keenan.
