Funeral services for Billy D. Stone, 57, of Junction City, will be11a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Stone passed away February 13, 2007 at Salina Regional Health Center. Visitation will be from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with a vigil service to be held at 7:30 p.m.
Bill was born August 3, 1949 in Columbus, Kansas, the son of William Ray Stone and Edith Pruitt.
Billy received a bachelor and masters degree in industrial education from Kansas State University of Pittsburg. He began his teaching career in Easton, Kansas. In 1973 he joined the teaching staff of Junction City High School where he taught woodworking, drafting, and automotive technology. Billy was recognized as having an exemplary drafting program by the Kansas State Department of Education. He was instrumental in involving high school students in the self-help housing program. Mr. Stone retired in June of 2006.
He married Janice Bregin on June 3, 1973 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Billy is survived by his wife. Survivors also include two sons, Billy D. Stone Jr. of Topeka and Tommy J. Stone of St. Louis, three brothers, Jimmy Stone of Weaver, Alabama, Bobby Stone of Columbus, Kansas, and Earl Stone of Georgetown, Texas, and one sister Peggy Long of Columbus, Kansas.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents.
Musician will be Manuel J. Pasquil.
Pallbearers will be Mick Cook, Mike Godsey, Mike Gross, Bob Holvorson, Rick Munson and Greg Springston.
