Beverly J. Mackin, 75, of Wakefield, passed away on April 11, 2016 at Clay County Medical Center. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016, from 6:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Gale Hammerschmidt officiating, burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, Manhattan, KS. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been designated to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Beverly was born April 27, 1940 in Fairbury, NE to William and Marjorie (Hiner) Hautzenroder. Shortly after graduating high school she was married and began what was to become the new phase of her life of packing up house and home every 2 to 3 years to support her husband's military career. Despite the stress of moving constantly she loved traveling and vacationing with her family.
She was an accomplished artist who loved working with her hands not only sketching but creating detailed huge needlepoint and crewel projects. She was also a phenomenal cook who enjoyed cooking huge meals for her family and her husbands often unexpected guests. Sunday dinners were a tradition that continued even when she began slowing down in her later years.
She married the love of her life John P. Mackin December 31, 1960 he preceded her in death February 13, 2015.
Beverly is survived by her children; Kathy (Rudy) Goetsch of Junction City, KS, Cindy Kelly of Orlando, FL, John P. Mackin, III of Columbia Falls, MT, Chris (Jen) Mackin of Stamford, CT; one granddaughter, Courtney Goetsch of Overland Park, KS and two grandsons, Aiden Mackin and Daxton Mackin of Stamford, CT. She is also survived by her sister Rosemary (Ray) Beekley of Lincoln, NE, her brothers, Bruce (Cathy) Hautzenroder of Lincoln, NE and Robert Hautzenroder of Beatrice, NE. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Kathy Hautzenroder.
Beverly was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William and her son-in-law Bill Kelly.
