Betty Jean Kell, 74, of Junction City passed away February 24, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Services will be Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Reverend Kenneth Edmiston will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, February 27, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will be at White City Cemetery. Betty was born May 3, 1929 at White City, KS to Ernest A. and Ethel (Williams) Wernecke. She had been a resident of Junction City since 1967. She had owned a grocery store in Junction City from 1972-1979, previously worked at the Fort Riley Commissary, Wombles IGA, Alta Vista, Crosley Brothers Dept. Store, Topeka and for the past 13 years until her illness, as a reservation clerk for KCI Roadrunner. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and the Wednesday night Mixed League Bowling.
She married Donald E. Kell, November 5, 1949 at Leavenworth, KS, he preceded her in death December 7, 1989.
She is survived by one son, Donald Kell (wife, Vickie)of Kansas City, KS, three daughters, Kiola Ryks (husband, Larry) of Junction City, KS, Terry Hill (husband, Jeff) of Delavan, KS and Tami Dozier of Olathe, KS, one sister, Etta Glessner of White City, KS, sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Val Dale Wernecke and Lloyd Wernecke, two sisters, Irene Ridley and Dorothy Taylor
Pallbearers will be Donnie Kell, Denver Kell, Johnny Vickers, Joey Vickers, Kevin Vickers, Kristofer Ripley, Kasey Ripley, Ernest (Bubba) Dozier, III.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Wernecke, Glenn Puett, Roy Glessner, Jr. and Jack Schonberner
