Betty Benoit, 83, of Junction City, formerly of Salina, died Sept. 12, 2013 at Geary Community Hospital. Betty was born July 21, 1930 at Lewisville, Oklahoma, the daughter of Emmett and Essie Wright Reed. She graduated from McAlester (Okla.) High School in 1948. She was a member of New Life Church Of The Living God, and loved to play Bingo. She was a homemaker, but also worked as a cook at Ramada Inn and Russell's Restaurant, both in Salina.
Survivors include 4 sons, Donald Smith and wife Precious, Omaha, NE., Ronald Smith and Marcell Benoit, both of Salina, and Joseph Benoit, Atlanta, GA.; 5 daughters, Judith Garner, Denton, TX., Zandrea Wilson and husband Robert, Detroit, MI., Andrea Pearce and husband Alvin, Junction City, Marsha Hunter and husband Phillip, Dallas, TX., and Darlene Thompson and husband Roosevelt, Topeka; a sister, Lula Jo Young, Pennsylvania, and 2 very special daughters, Donna Smith and Cheryl LeVoy; many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren; a very special granddaughter, Takissha Lassiter, and a host of nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Lynn Smith; a brother, Emmett Reed; and 2 sisters, Helen Meadows and Katherine Phiefer.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at New Church Of The Living God in Junction City, with Pastor James E. Johnson presiding. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Salina. The family will greet friends on Thursday, Sept. 19, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave., Junction City.
