Bettie Jane Miller

Bettie Jane Miller, 84, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at her home. Cremation has taken place. Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home 203 N. Washington St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you bring a picture with Bettie and or a story to tell to be compiled into a memory book for the family. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to Geary County 4-H Foundation, as mom loved her farm life and encouraging kids to learn more and do more especially through 4-H and the county fairs that she so thoroughly enjoyed.
She was born April 16, 1934 in Yale County, TX, the daughter of Coy T. and Emma Tabor Hollon. She grew up on a cotton farm in the panhandle of Texas. On January 19, 1951, she married Jerald Dozier. He was killed in action October 13, 1965 in Vietnam. She later married Howard M. Miller on December 10, 1967. He passed away July 10, 2001, on the family farm in rural Geary County.
Survivors include one son, Scott Miller (Katie) of Manhattan, KS; three daughters, Terrie Lynn Rush (Eric) of Lakeland, FL, Jerri Ann Wickett of Norman, OK and Jodi Dee Miller (Jim Janke) of Eugene, OR; seven grandchildren James, Andrew, David and Steven Browning, Kelli Wickett, Tate and Cassidy Miller; eight great-grandchildren, JaLynne, Holli, Jessica, Josef, Gabriela, Isabella, Grayson and Robert Browning; nieces, Debye Word (Sam), Diane Marshall (Alan) and Anna Dale Auxley; nephews, Eddie Dozier (Sharon) and Bobby Russell (Angie); one sister-in-law, Fran Dozier of Valrico, FL and very special life long friends Susan Eversole, Betty and Archie Carpenter of Junction City, KS.
Through many years she worked in various capacities of banking and various banks including as a manager at Anchor Savings and Loan. Her final position was a loan officer at Central National Bank for many years. She retired December 31, 2011 from Central National Bank as a Vice President. She was a member of the Junction City Noon Rotary Club where she served as President. She was the first female Rotary President in the State of Kansas. She was also a member of the Pilot Club. Bettie enjoyed soaking up the view of the cattle and growing crops on Miller Ranch in the Kansas Flint Hills.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Jackie Russell, Leah Faye Lewis and Mary Ann Hollon.
