Funeral services for Bessie L. (Cain) McMahon, 92, of Junction City, KS will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Wolf officiating. Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Beattie, KS. Mrs. McMahon passed away at Geary Community Hospital on December 12, 2007. Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mrs. McMahon was born April 21, 1915 on a farm south of Axtell, KS. She was the sixth child to Walter Otto and Lulu Anna (Corwin) Cain. She attended rural school in Marshall County, graduated from Axtell High School in 1934. She taught in Marshall County and Nemaha County rural schools and in primary room at Beattie, KS and also taught summer school in Emporia and Pittsburg, KS. She married Edwin Weis McMahon of Beattie, KS on June 19, 1948 he preceded her in death May 13, 1984. She has resided in Junction City since 1948. Mrs. McMahon was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ruth Rebekah Lodge, DAR, Hospital Auxiliary, Church Circle, Prayer Group, NARFE, Little Theater and the Ladies Reading Club. She was referred to as the lady with the flowers because of her love for growing flowers for others to see. She loved and enjoyed being with her many friends and her many friends of the church.
She is survived by her daughter; Helen M. Sanderford and husband Joel of Oxford, NC, brother-in-law; Leslie Sabalka of Lincoln, NE, two sister-in-laws; Lois Connerly of Rancho Murieta, CA and Alice Cain of Marysville, KS, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, numerous cousins and her dear friends; Joe and Carlye Gilmore, Jeane Lytle and Kari and Penny Hauserman.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
